Director Submission

Thank you for your interest in directing at Home Made Theater.  Please review the following important information before submitting your application.  If you have any questions, please contact artisticcommittee@homemadetheater.org.

SHOW SELECTION

• Directors may submit to direct one or more shows at Home Made Theater for our 2025-2026 season.  
• Home Made Theater is receptive to all title proposals, however we request that you avoid proposing any title which has been produced by Home Made Theater within the last 15 years.  A full list of prior productions can be found at https://homemadetheater.org/about/hmt-history/.  We also request that you avoid proposing any title which has been produced locally within the last five years.
• Home Made Theater’s Youth Production (July 24 – August 2, 2026) will be restricted to performers ages 8-20 years old.  While “Junior” versions of titles are acceptable, submissions of all appropriate titles are encouraged.
• Before submitting a title for consideration, please research and confirm that the title has been released for licensing.

PRODUCTION BUDGET

• Home Made Theater possesses substantial scenic, costume and properties materials to fulfill your artistic vision. Additionally, Home Made Theater provides an adequate production budget to cover show-specific costs.  
• If submitting a musical title, Home Made Theater provides a stipend of $1000 for a Musical Director as well as stipends for a maximum of (5) musicians. Volunteer participation is encouraged.
• All other artistic and production staff are volunteers and no stipend is provided. 
• Home Made Theater covers the cost of licensing and, if applicable, musical arrangements.

PERFORMANCE LOCATIONS AND DATES

• The application will indicate the location of the performance venue as well as the specific dates of the productions. Both the location and their associated dates are non-negotiable.
• Productions will be staged at either The Saratoga Music Hall or The High Tunnel at Pitney Meadows Community Farm. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the performance venue specific to their submittal(s).  
• Auditions and rehearsals will take place at Home Made Theater’s headquarters in The Wilton Mall, Saratoga Springs.  Rehearsals generally take place evenings, Sunday-Thursday, beginning approximately six weeks prior to opening night.

APPLICATION PROCESS

• The deadline for submission is December 15th, 2024.
• Home Made Theater’s Artistic Committee will review applications and candidates may be contacted directly to further elaborate on their submission, if needed.
• Applicants will be notified of their status by December 30th, 2024.
• Please identify as much of your production and design staff as possible and clearly outline your artistic vision for the production. We encourage unique interpretations that will celebrate a diverse and inclusive cast, crew and staff representing a variety of backgrounds, races, ethnicities, ages, gender identities, abilities, shapes, sizes, and types.
• Before adding any names to your production team, please be sure they have agreed to be part of your production.
